10 Closet Essentials
Hi Friends! This post has taken me FOREVER to do because I have such a hard time narrowing things down because I think everything is an essential, but really it isn't. I also think that 10 closet essentials are different for everyone depending on style and preference. With that being said, let's just get crackin' shall we?
1) Jeans!
I think this one is very obvious, but everyone needs a good pair of standard well fitting jeans. No holes, no embellishment. Just a pair that fits just the way you need them to that are comfortable. Depending on what you like I think a medium wash or black jean works the best. Depending on your shape and preference cut is always up to you, but I think you can never go wrong with something high waisted. My biggest tip with this here is if you find a piece that you absolutely love, but they don't fit you perfectly get them tailored. You can get them taken in, and hemmed to be custom to you!
2) The Obvious LBD
Everyone says this, but it so so true. The LBD will be your saving grace in a pinch every time. I would try to find something that would work for every occasion. Not too long, and not too short and once again something that you feel comfortable in and that flatters your particular body shape.
3) Basic White Tee
This one seems so lame and boring but the joke is on you because it is so versatile. You can do so much with a plain white tee. You can layer it or even just throw a jacket over it. Which leads me to essential number 4....
4) A jacket....
This is vague, but I am referring to either a jean or leather jacket. I personally think both are important in a wardrobe, but once again it is up to your style. A leather jacket or jean jacket can really elevate the look and add another chic element to whatever look you're putting together.
5) Black Tank
Now this is also up to preference. I think that ones that you can wear under sheer tops are important to have but I think more importantly one that you can dress up and down. You can tuck it into jeans or throw a cardigan over it and you're set.
6) Black Leggings
This are a must in my wardrobe. They are so comfortable and can be dressed up and down. You can get them anywhere really, however I have never regretted investing in a pair. I would recommend somewhere like Lululemon. I still have my first pair and they are still holding strong! There are other places like Fabletics that offer great basic leggings that are affordable but still have the same quality like high end brands.
7) Essential Shoes
Okay I know that I am about to list more than one pair of shoes, but they done need their own blog post, but they also will be taking up too much of this post so just roll with it. A basic pair of white sneakers will never fail you. Air Force 1's, Adidas super stars, Superga's look great with jeans and a top, or even when dressing down a dress or skirt. Having a great pair of boots is also important for the colder months. Little black booties are a must for me, but having a more casual pair of combat boots or Timbs might work for my more casual ladies! Lastly is a heel. It doesn't have to be super tall, but having one is important whether you wear it a ton because you will always have use for them. Job interview, wedding, fancy dinner, funerals! Always have a simple pair of heels that you can walk in confidently.
8) Oversized Cardigan
By now you can tell that for me versatility is the most important with these essentials. I want to be able to walk into my closet when I feel like I have nothing to wear and just know that these pieces will work. A black cardigan can be thrown over anything an everything. Like a jean jacket and leather, it will add another element to a simple look plus it's like wearing a blanket around you, AMAZING!
9) White Button up
I AM LOVING A WHITE BUTTON UP! I personally like it over sized because then it can be worn as a dress with some boots or white sneakers. Tuck it in, tie it up. This is essential for those business looks that you will inevitably have to deal with like a job interview, meeting the parents, or kicking ass and taking names, you know... the usual.
10) Finally number 10 is not that exciting but we have to finish this so lets get it done. Accessories like purses, jewelry and belts are important to making you look put together. You don't need 43690433 different kinds, although many will disagree. Find a solid purse that will go with everything, a classic (faux) leather belt that you can wear, and whether you're a gold or silver girl having your dainty staple necklace will complete all of your looks!
